PURPOSE
The purpose of Hudson Valley Home Matters is to provide those 50 and over the practical means to continue living active, independent lives in their own homes as they grow older. We believe maintaining our quality of life at a reasonable cost in our communities depends on access to trustworthy service providers and home health care agencies, a network of community-minded volunteers to provide local transportation and other services, and a choice of social and cultural activities.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to households in which one or more members are 50 years old or older in the greater Poughkeepsie area and towns to the north and south. An annual fee of $500 for an individual and $700 for a household covers the cost of the Member Services Coordinator and office expenses.
ONE-CALL SERVICE
Call us, or e-mail if you prefer, and we will work with you to fill your need. If a volunteer is qualified and available, we will make arrangements for that volunteer to provide the service. All volunteer services are included in your membership fee.
TYPICAL VOLUNTEER SERVICES
Our volunteers will provide transportation for appointments and errands, in-home assistance with light chores and minor repairs, gardening advice and help, and help with software and set-up for technical equipment, among others.
COMMERCIAL SERVICE PROVIDERS
When a request cannot be met by a volunteer, such as major home repairs and home health care needs, Hudson Valley Home Matters will assist you in finding a qualified provider. We have assembled a list of reliable home health care agencies and skilled tradesmen who have been recommended to us. Some of our providers give a discount to HVHM members. You will be responsible for making arrangements and for payment for commercial or professional services.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Members are notified regularly about events in the Valley that are open to the public, often at no or a minimal change. In addition, we schedule monthly activities designed to bring members together in a variety of venues.
